The Succession Signet

The concept of the signet ring dates back to 3500 BC, when these intricate and personalized designs were made for Kings, Queens and other nobility to sign and seal official papers and documents. Each design so unique and personal that once the owner of the ring passed, the ring itself was either destroyed or buried with its owner to prevent forgery. 

Though times have changed (as has the purpose of the signet ring), the tradition and weight this piece of jewelry carries certainly has not. Through the years, signet rings have displayed family crests, coat of arms, flags or even depictions of animals meant to symbolize each family member. More recently, Signet rings tend to feature unique monograms and meaningful initials.

We created the Sucession Signet so that whatever letters you choose, they fit perfectly together as if they've been that way for centuries. And the delicate fluting that serves as a perfect backdrop to your initials, was designed to create a little movement and play when the light catches it. The Succession signet is weighty on your hand with its broad shoulders that taper down to sit perfectly and comfortably on any finger you choose, though signet rings are traditionally worn on the smallest finger (pinky) of the non-dominant hand. 

We call it the Succession because we are creating each meaningful heirloom in hopes that it gets passed down from family member to family member for generations to come. In my family, we intend to gift a Succession Signet to each of our children for major milestones and achievements in their lives. My dream is that they wear them always with pride and reverence for where they came from. As they move forward into their own lives, I hope their ring symbolizes to them not only their past and their roots, but what lessons they can take from their childhood into their future. I hope they look down at their hands and are reminded not only of who they are but who they want to be. What will their legacy be, what are their passions, what do they desire to move forward and create. And ultimately, what do they dream to pass down to their own families some day. A Signet ring, a never ending circle, an ever evolving symbol of you, your family; its history, its hopes, its dreams and its forever promise. 

A big ask for a small piece of jewelry?  We think not. As this classic style of adornment was once the definitive way to prove to the world who you were, our Succession Signet is the most beautiful and meaningful way we can think of to show the world not only who you are and where you came from, but just as important...where you are going.
